Have you ever heard the saying “Nepal is more than mountains»?
While this country is world-famous for housing eight of the ten highest peaks on Earth, including Mount Everest, Nepal is in essence the land of Pure Consciousness and Spiritual Awakening
Beyond its breathtaking geography, Nepal is a cradle of spirituality and home to the majestic Himalayas, which have drawn sages, yogis and meditators for thousands of years
Let us introduce ourselves: we are Sundeep, a Nepali certified mountain guide specialized in spiritual and cultural heritage; and Madhavi, yoga teacher and sound healer from The Netherlands. After exploring together most of the sacred and spiritual locations in Nepal, we got inspired! So, we have created a unique pilgrimage that captures the true spiritual soul of this country, beyond the tourist trail
Join us to experience the deep and pure spirituality of Nepal; a country which blends ancient untouched religious roots with a harmonious mix of faiths and a majestic mountain landscape that inspires awakening
More than just visiting places, you will experience the sacred spirituality of unique temples, living rituals, ashrams, sacred geography, stupas and more in this land of ancient mysticism and divine energy.
Nepal is also home of 64 sacred, self-manifested Shiva shrines known as the 64 swayambhuwa lingas -named Jyortilingas-, rooted in the Himalayan region of Nepal. They are mentioned in the Himvat Khanda (or Himavatkhanda), asection (Khanda) of the Skanda Purana, which is one of the eighteen major Puranas in Hindu literature.
We will also visit some of these unique hidden gems!
This pilgrimage is a journey that offers more than witness Nepal’s spiritual heritage firsthand, it’s a journey for your soul

After landing in the ancient city of Kathmandu, we will pick you up from the airport to get to the accommodation. Time to rest and to acclimatize.
We will start the day with an introduction, opening circle and meditation to tune into this spiritual journey
Then we will spend the day exploring Kathmandu Durbar Square. We will also join the celebrations of the Holi Festival (locally known as Fagu Purnima) with sacred pole-raising rituals, lively street gatherings, music and vibrant exchanges of colored powders and water
We finish the day with a welcome dinner
We will take a scenic cable car to Chandragiri Hills (2551 altitude). Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple, a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is located atop. The summit offers fantastic views of major mountain ranges, including Annapurna, Langtang and even Mount Everest on a clear day.
Then we will visit two main iconic Buddhist sacred places of Kathmandu:
Boudha Stupa (also known as Boudhanath) – one of the largest spherical stupas in the world which serves as the absolute spiritual epicenter of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal.
Swayambhu Mahachaitya Stupa (also known as the Monkey Temple) – an ancient and sacred Buddhist stupa located on a hilltop. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is famous for its massive white dome, golden spire and the painted all-seeing «Buddha Eyes» that gaze out over the Kathmandu Valley. Let’s enjoy the sunset and view of the city lights of Kathmandu!
Once more we will visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the ancient royal plaza located in the heart of old Kathmandu. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it represents the cultural, religious and architectural heartbeat of the capital. Spending the whole day deeply exploring this living museum of medieval Newari art, architecture, culture and spirituality.
In the afternoon, we will drive to Nagarkot village, a serene hill station located on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley. Let’s enjoy the sunset with its stunning mountain range and valley views and overnight here
An early start to witness an unforgettable sunrise over the Himalayas from the viewpoint in Nagarkot. The snow-capped peaks, including Mount Everest on a clear day, glowing in the morning light.
After breakfast, we will visit Ratnachudeshwor Mahadev. This temple features a sacred pond (pokhari) and a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is also a Dhuni (sacred fireplace) where it might be possible to spend time with the Sadhu.
Then we continue by car to visit other special temples:
Changunarayan, the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Narayan. There is also a small Shiva temple.
Doleshwar Mahadev Temple, believed by Hindu devotees to be the missing head of Lord Shiva in his form as the Kedarnath Bull
Anantalingeshwor Mahadev Temple, highly revered for its spiritual historical value, lush wilderness and panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Here we will experience an authentic local Arati
These Shiva temples are part of the 64 Jyotirlingas Yatra.
We will visit unique temples outside of the typical tourist trail:
Jal Binayak temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesh, located near the scenic Chobhar Gorge on the banks of the River Bagmati. This place is tied to the mythological creation of the Kathmandu Valley
Shesh Narayan Temple, an ancient, highly revered Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is built directly into the side of a massive limestone cliff, blending quiet natural beauty, unique rock formations and deep spiritual heritage
The Bajrayogini Temple, again a highly revered, ancient Hindu-Buddhist Tantric temple complex located near the historic Newar town of Sankhu in the northeastern corner of the Kathmandu Valley.
The Gopaleshwar Mahadev, an ancient 5,000-year-old Hindu temple. It represents a unique spiritual convergence where both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are worshiped together. It houses a self-manifested (Swayambhu) sleeping Shiva linga made of black stone that resembles the sacred Kedarnath Jyotirlinga
We finish the day at Taudaha, the largest natural lake in Kathmandu Valley to contemplate nature and meditate.
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred and significant Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva (venerated here as Pashupati, the lord of all living beings). Located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River in Kathmandu, this sprawling complex is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as a major global pilgrimage hub for millions of devotees
We will explore in detail this vast temple precinct! The entire complex encompasses over 518 smaller temples, cremation sites, shrines and ashrams spread across 246 hectares
We will finish the day with Aarati (light ceremony) at Gorakhnath, also located here. You will experience a mystical ritual conducted by traditional Nath sect pujaris (priests), which centers around the sacred Dhuni (eternal fire) and the paduka (holy footprints) of Guru Gorakhnath. The Aarati is accompanied by the vigorous ringing of heavy brass bells, the blowing of conch shells and the distinct, rhythmic beating of traditional drums.
We will spend the day traveling to Pokhara, exploring some places on the road. Once in Pokhara, we will stay overnight in Sarangkot, a hilltop village best known for its breathtaking sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges.
Let’s wake up at sunrise to admire the spectacular views from Sarangkot! Then, after breakfast, we visit The Panchamukhi Ganesh Temple; which features a towering 48 to 51-foot golden statue of Lord Ganesha in his rare five-faced form
We will continue to Bindhyabasini Temple, the oldest and most revered Hindu shrine in Pokhara, dedicated to the goddess Durga
Then we will visit Tal Barahi Temple, also known as the Lake Temple, located on a small island in the southeastern section of Phewa Lake. This beautiful two-story pagoda-style shrine is dedicated to Goddess Barahi (a fierce manifestation of Durga), who is considered the protector deity of the Pokhara Valley. Included is a boat ride on the lake to admire the beautiful surrounding nature
Also a visit to the International Mountain Museum (IMM). This is a world-class institution dedicated to documenting the history, culture and evolution of mountaineering activities across the globe, with a special emphasis on the majestic Himalayan range
We will finish the day with Arati at Shri Kedareshowr Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva
Pokhara is not only the gate to main hiking trails in Nepal; it also has spiritually touching places! Let’s explore more:
We begin the day at Pumdikot, a scenic hill station famous for hosting the Pumdikot Shiva Statue, situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It has quickly evolved into a major viewpoint that combines spiritual significance with sweeping panoramic views of the mountains and lake
We then continue to Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a famous underground limestone cave and sacred Hindu shrine located in Chhorepatan. Measuring roughly 2,950 meters in length, it is recognized as one of the longest caves in Nepal. The site holds profound spiritual importance because it houses a naturally formed Shiva Lingam (Swayambhu)
The cave is situated directly opposite Davis Falls (Devi’s Fall). The thundering water from the waterfall flows entirely underground right through the lower channels of the cave.
Then some free time for shopping and exploring the city of Pokhara.
On the way to Chitwan Devghat, we will stop at the ancient town of Bandipur, a beautifully preserved, pedestrian-only hilltop settlement, offering sweeping 360-degree views of the Marsyangdi River Valley and the grand Himalayan range
Devghat Dham is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites in Nepal, famously situated at the holy confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Trishuli rivers. Geographically, it serves as a spiritual gateway located at the tri-junction of the Chitwan, Tanahun, and Nawalparasi districts
Spanning an area of roughly 54 square kilometers with Temples and Shrines, sacred caves, ashrams and old age homes and suspension bridge, Devghat is an active center for Vedic learning, yoga, and meditation. It features prominent retreats and hosts several charitable sanctuaries that care for the elderly and needy
On arrival, we will take time to rest.
A day to fully immerse ourselves in deep spiritual practices:
Holy dip in Beni (holy confluence) at the exact junction where the Trishuli and Krishna Gandaki rivers merge to form the Narayani (Saligram)
Sacred rituals: Pooja and Havan
Metidation, Kirtan and Bhajans
Free time to explore the area by walking or get some rest
We will take a long drive to Janakpur but it’s worth it!
On the way, we will stop at the Kalika Bhagwati Temple, a sacred Hindu shrine dedicated to the Goddess Kali, located inside a dense, peaceful forest.
Overnight in Janakpur.
According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Janakpur was the ancient capital of King Janak’s Mithila Kingdom and the birthplace of Goddess Sita (Janaki), as well as the site of her marriage to Lord Ram. We will explore the sacred places of this important religious pilgrimage city
Then we will continue to Kathmandu. On the way, we will stop at another jyotirlinga temple.
We will explore other special cultural and spiritual places in Kathmandu:
Patan Durbar square: a highly celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Site situated at the center of Lalitpur (Patan). It’s renowned for its traditional Newari architecture; this ancient royal square serves as a living museum showcasing centuries of intricate wood carvings, fine metalwork, and stone sculptures that thrived during the Malla dynasty. We will visit also the Krishna Mandir, the crowning jewel of the square, a 17th-century multi-tiered temple
Kumbheshwor (Sarbeshwor) Mahadev dedicated to Lord Shiva. It features a striking five-story pagoda style, fine woodcarvings, a large Nandi bull statue and sacred water ponds believed to be linked to Gosainkunda. This temple is part of the 64 Jyotirlingas pilgrimage.
You will also experience the Shree Bangalamukhi, a famous Hindu tantric shrine, located inside Kumbheshwor. It’s dedicated to Goddess Baglamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas (uprising, transformative wisdom goddesses) in Hinduism
Satsang and goodbye dinner.
